REN is pleased to announce that as of 14th of March 2014, the Sistema de Informação de Mercados de Energia, in addition to the publication of electrical energy market information, will also publish information relative to the natural gas market, thereby further increasing transparency in the wholesale energy markets.

The building of natural gas and electricity European internal markets, aims to provide freedom of choice to all EU consumers, to create new business opportunities and increase cross-border trade, in order to achieve efficiency gains, competitive prices and higher quality of service standards and contribute for security of supply and sustainability.

Wholesale markets affect not only the market participants, but also play a key role in shaping the final prices of energy and represent an important indicator for future investments in infrastructures.

In the current context of economic crisis, energy prices assume greater importance because of their impact on the competitiveness of economies.

The Sistema de Informação de Mercados de Energia aims to provide information to the natural gas and electricity markets, in compliance with the transparency obligations arising from national and European regulatory frameworks, to ensure the effectiveness, transparency and competitiveness of the markets.

REN will continue to actively contribute to the effective integration of energy markets in the EU.
